The Bloodblight swamp was once a pleasant place. Golden fields of wheat, rustling in the breeze. Life here was simple yet fulfilling.

Until Dragonwilds:Velgar took it all away.

He fought the mighty god of war, Dragonwilds:Bandos, and he should have lost. Dragons are powerful, and Velgar is stronger than most, but even in his most arrogant days he was no match for a god.

Yet, arrogance is not a mortal taint and the war god reeked of it. Bandos cast aside his wards. He refused to don his armour. The god pressed into the lair of the great dragon, and tried to wrestle him to the grave.

He nearly succeeded. Bandos wrapped his arms around the dragon’s serpentine neck and dug his fingernails beneath the scales. Velgar, in his writhing fury, called down a poison-filled rock from the heavens and cast it at Bandos, striking him in the temple. As the god reeled, he released Velgar, allowing the dragon to breathe a jet of Dragonwilds:anima-infused poison, at the unsteady god. Still wavering from the blow, Bandos breathed in the toxins and felt weakness for the first time in centuries.

A smart tactician, Bandos retreated. Better to face the shame of retreat, than risk the oblivion of death.

In his jubilant rage, Velgar spilled his blood on the once fertile plains, corrupting them with his hate-filled poison. The fields wilted. The crops blackened and then collapsed into venom.

This cloak, is reminder of that blighted day.
Centuries ago, a spell was cast over the Highlands that changed it forever. Once temperate skies became pendulous clouds filled with lightning. Electric hate that strikes at anything and everything that dares step beneath their gaze.

War changes everything, even the sky.

The land itself is strewn with the dead. Ancient skeletons of colossal wyrms, the monstrous creations of dragonkin science, lie across the terrain, dead eyes watching over everything. Dragonwilds:Lacrussa considered these monstrosities her finest work. Yet she shed no tears at their destruction. She could always make more, or so she believed.

It was a lone girl, a necromancer of great power, who turned the sky into a curse. A last act of vengeance for a fallen friend. She dug into forbidden magic, drawing power from the countless dead slain in constant conflict. The garou, lords of this region, were not prepared for the power of grief, for it was a concept alien to their primordial nature.

These stories weave into the threads of this cape, barely remembered, yet never quite forgotten.
{{journal entry|
The heart of Bramblemead village was never really the castle, which came much later to the party. It wasn’t the town hall. It wasn’t the druid huts. It was the windmill. Grain heaped by the village was brought here and milled down into flour. The flour became bread, pastry and batter, turning village meals into something that helped people to live, rather than simply survive.

Food, becomes a banner around which everyone can gather. To break bread with one’s enemy was a way to settle old scores, and forge new connections. More good has been done over the dinner table, than on any throne. Flour, turned Bramblemead from a settlement, into a thriving village.

Now, the windmill lies dormant and still. The foundations warped by the centuries, despite the magic holding the rot at bay in the ancient timber, and the stone cracking from time. When humanity fell, it was rats and goblins that claimed the heart of the village, though they had no use for the swirling sails.

To the goblins it was a place where food could be hidden. Supplies sealed up from rival tribes. For the rats, it was a restaurant full of goblin supplies that were never well sealed.

The sail no longer turns. But, perhaps, in the fullness of time, this village heart might beat again.
It is said these swamps are haunted. Those who wander it at night, tell stories of whispering that bubbles up from the fetid water.

There is a coldness to these swamps, that is more than just temperature. It reaches beneath the warmest clothing and presses itself into bone and blood. Heartbeats slow and bravery breaks beneath its touch.

The trees here are old and spiteful, their roots wrapped around the bones of adventurers, villagers, and warriors alike. They care not for goblin, human, or garou, they will strangle the remains of any within their reach.

Occasionally tiny stones will bubble from the surface, black as midnight and cold as the darkest winter night. A villager once tried to craft jewelry from these stones, thinking them beautiful. It took twelve village guard to put an end to her murder spree.

This cape is woven from the fibres of swamp plants, and shields its wearer from the swamp’s whispers. Or so the old wives tales claim.
