== Obtaining ==
Looting can be obtained from [[Minecraft:enchanting tables]], drops from mobs that have spawned in a [[Minecraft:raid]],{{only|bedrock}} books obtained by [[Minecraft:fishing]], [[Minecraft:monster room]] chests, librarian [[Minecraft:villager]]s, and non-village [[Minecraft:structure]] loot.

== Usage ==
Looting increases the maximum number of items for most [[Minecraft:Drops#Common drops|common drops]] by 1 per level. Looting also increases the chance of [[Minecraft:rare drops]] and [[Minecraft:Drops#Equipped items|equipment drops]] by 1 percentage point per level.

Looting affects any kill that happens while holding the enchanted item in the ''main'' hand, not just any kill by the enchanted item.<ref>{{bug|MC-3304}}</ref> For example, a player can fire a projectile then switch to the enchanted item before the projectile reaches the target to get the Looting effect, hold the enchanted item while killing a mob with a ghast fireball, or fire a projectile from the off-hand{{only|java}} while holding the enchanted item in the main hand. This allows Looting to work on [[Minecraft:arrow]]s or thrown [[Minecraft:trident]]s, as long as the player is holding the Looting item when the arrow or trident lands.

Looting applies to mobs killed with a [[Minecraft:sweep attack]].{{only|java}}

Using [[Minecraft:commands]] to get higher levels than III works as expected, adding higher numbers with a weight of 1. A mob always drops its naturally-spawned equipment at Looting level 92.

Looting has no effect on certain sources:
* Kills by tamed [[Minecraft:wolves]] are not affected by this enchantment, even if the target is struck first.
* Mobs with no drops, such as [[Minecraft:bat]]s, [[Minecraft:bee]]s, or [[Minecraft:endermite]]s, are not affected by this enchantment.
* [[Minecraft:Wither]]s, [[Minecraft:iron golem]]s<ref name="MC-200707">{{bug|MC-200707}}</ref>, [[Minecraft:cat]]s<ref name="MC-200707"/> and [[Minecraft:snow golem]]s are not affected by this enchantment.
* Looting does not increase the amount of fish dropped by [[Minecraft:fish]] mobs.<ref>{{bug|MC-212795}}</ref>
** [[Minecraft:Guardian]]s and elder guardians are not considered fish mobs, and Looting does cause them to drop more fish.

* It does not affect the amount of [[Minecraft:wool]] dropped by [[Minecraft:sheep]].
* It does not affect [[Minecraft:sponge]]s or [[Minecraft:tide armor trim]]s dropped by [[Minecraft:elder guardian]]s.
* It does not affect [[Minecraft:totems of undying]] dropped by [[Minecraft:evoker]]s.
* It does not affect the amount of [[Minecraft:skull]]s dropped by [[Minecraft:wither skeleton]]s, but does increase the chance for them to drop one.
* It does not affect the amount of [[Minecraft:sculk catalyst]]s dropped by [[Minecraft:warden]]s.
* Mobs killed by fire damage from the [[Minecraft:Fire Aspect]] enchantment will not apply Looting to the resulting drops.

If Looting is applied to a [[Minecraft:bow]] by use of [[Minecraft:command]]s or an [[Minecraft:anvil]] in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon's [[Minecraft:arrow]]s. If Looting is applied to a [[Minecraft:crossbow]] by use of [[Minecraft:command]]s or an [[Minecraft:anvil]] in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon's arrows but not its [[Minecraft:firework rocket]]s. If Looting is applied to a [[Minecraft:trident]] by use of [[Minecraft:command]]s or an [[Minecraft:anvil]] in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon melee attack, but not its ranged attack.
