While iron and steel are sturdier, the Bronze Pickaxe was more readily available and they could risk a little decoration. Many would customise their pickaxes with family crests or a nickname that embodied them well. Often these would make the pickaxe impractical, yet they became a popular heirloom handed down to family members. <br />
