When Guthix's expedition arrived in Ashenfall, Malgo joined a small band of explorers.{{CiteJournal|journal=Adamant Helmet|quote=He had been called to Ashenfall with Guthix's expedition, and he joined a small band of explorers heading deeper into the realm.}} Their journey led them to the [[Dragonwilds:Umbral Sands]] region where they made remarkable discoveries, including new ores, rare materials, and forgotten treasures hidden beneath the desert sands.{{CiteJournal|journal=Adamant Platebody|quote=As Malgo and his expedition headed into the deserts of Ashenfall, they found wonderous new ores, materials and treasures.}} Among these finds was [[Dragonwilds:Adamant Ore|Adamant]], a metal whose true potential Malgo was among the first to recognize.

Yet the sands held more than riches. Deep beneath the desert slumbered [[Dragonwilds:Karibdos|Karibdos, the Devourer]], a colossal beast that nearly destroyed the expedition.{{CiteJournal|journal=Adamant Platebody|quote=They also found Karibdos, the devourer.}}{{CiteJournal|journal=Adamant Platebody|quote=It was a great beast that lay within the sands.}} When the creature opened a vast sand vortex to consume the explorers, Malgo summoned great vines to pull his companions to safety.{{CiteJournal|journal=Adamant Platebody|quote=With quick thinking and forgotten spells, Malgo summoned vines for the expedition members to grasp.}}

Many were lost to the beast, and when the survivors struck back, their weapons proved too weak to pierce Karibdos's hide. Determined not to let Karibdos bar the expedition's path home, Malgo turned his attention to the newly acquired adamantite, studying the metal carefully and experimenting with techniques none had tried before, even infusing it with a little magic.
