			To unlock a Nightmare Crucible, the player must use a corresponding item, called an Engram, whose title matches the Crucible of interest. An Engram only provides a single entry to a given Crucible - win or lose, the crucible will re-lock once the player enters it once. If the player dies while inside a Crucible, their [[Dragonwilds:gravestone]] will appear outside the crucible entrance.

			The interior of Nightmare Crucibles are wide open, flat areas with almost no obstacles, save for the small Reward Pedestal in the center, and no safe spots for [[Dragonwilds:ranged]] or [[Dragonwilds:magic]] users. There is enough space to run around the arena in a circle and fight enemies from afar, but there is nowhere to hide. It is sometimes possible, depending on the player's positioning, to attract the attention of only a subset of the enemies in a given Crucible at a time.
