On March 5, 2020, it was announced that the festival has been postponed until late 2021, due to safety concerns about the ongoing {{w|COVID-19 pandemic}}.<ref name=Postponed2021/>

On September 3, 2020, during the announcement of [[Minecraft:Minecraft Live 2020]], it was announced that the festival has been postponed again to a yet to be announced date in 2022.<ref name=Postponed2022/>

On January 3, 2022, a Mojang employee stated that Minecraft Festival would not take place in 2022 due to COVID-19.<ref name=Postponed/>
