Most of the exact geography of the City is unknown. According to one of the characters, the City contains most of the world's population, and all who live outside are part of the City's economic ecosystem. The terrain on the border of the city has been deforested and strip-mined by the Redstone Company. Further out, but still less than a day's walk away from the City, is a small civilization of zombies. By the end of the book, the deforested lands have been revitalized to the point of being indistinguishable from untouched nature.<br />
