Typecasting, mostly: I try to be approachable. With a big title, some people are less willing to talk to you.

But the other thing is that my background is from the military, where I was -- am -- a Praetor. Chancellors are the civilian equivalent of Praetors, but technically we're higher in seniority. If the Council were to mysteriously disappear, us Praetors would take over in the short term. Which I guess can be confusing, since Praetors report to Generals. You'd think the Generals would take over in an emergency, but they're too important to ever take on emergency roles.

Naturally, some Chancellors don't think this is a reasonable system. I don't really care either way, so I'm just trying not to rub it in their faces, you know?

This sliver of the sword was kept safe in the Council chambers. We don't know how he got it, or why. But it was gone the same day he disappeared, so we put the clues together.
