== Getting Started ==

To edit the wiki, you need:
# A Discord account

Once logged in, you can edit any article, create new pages, upload images, and participate in discussions. Users without the Wiki Contributor role can still read everything and post on discussion (talk) pages.

=== What happens during a sync ===

Every night, a sync bot checks each source wiki for new or updated pages from the last 24 hours. Here's what happens:

* '''Pages with no local edits''' — automatically updated from upstream. You won't notice anything.
* '''Pages you've edited''' — your changes are '''never overwritten'''. Instead:
** The upstream version is saved to a subpage (e.g., <code>ProjectGorgon:Sword/Upstream</code>)
** A banner appears at the top of your page: {{Upstream update available|Example/Upstream}}
** The page is added to [[:Category:Pages with upstream updates]] so editors can find it
* '''New upstream pages''' — imported automatically with no action needed.

== Editing a Synced Page ==

You are welcome and encouraged to edit any page! Common reasons to edit:

* '''Add SAS-specific tips''' — guild strategies, server-specific info, community knowledge
* '''Fix errors''' — correct wrong information, update outdated content
* '''Improve formatting''' — make pages look better on our dark theme
* '''Add content''' — fill in missing details the upstream wiki doesn't have

Your edits are permanent and will survive all future syncs. The sync system respects local contributions.

== Merging Upstream Updates ==

When you see the '''Upstream Update Available''' banner on a page you've edited:

# Click the link to view the upstream version (the <code>/Upstream</code> subpage)
# Compare it with the current page to see what changed upstream
# '''Cherry-pick''' the changes you want:
#* Open the current page in the editor
#* Copy relevant updates from the upstream version
#* Save the page with an edit summary like "Merged upstream changes"

# '''Delete the /Upstream subpage''' (optional) — it will be recreated if there's another upstream update

You do '''not''' need to merge everything. If the upstream change isn't relevant to our wiki or conflicts with SAS-specific content, just remove the banner and move on.

== Creating New Pages ==

You can create pages in any game namespace. A few tips:

* '''Use the namespace prefix''' — create <code>ProjectGorgon:My New Page</code>, not just <code>My New Page</code>
* '''Link from existing pages''' — add a link to your new page from a relevant existing article
* '''Follow existing formatting''' — look at other pages in the same namespace for style conventions

New pages you create will not be affected by the daily sync (since they don't exist upstream).

== Discussion Pages ==

Every article has a '''Discussion''' tab where you can:
* Ask questions about the content
* Suggest changes before making them
* Coordinate with other editors

All logged-in Discord users can post on discussion pages, even without the Wiki Contributor role. Just click the Discussion tab and start a new topic.

* Preview your changes before saving
