His first freelance job was doing book illustrations for Harcourt Publishers, for elementary school textbooks. He did some branding for a housing complex. In 2016 he contributed additional cross-section illustrations for &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Star Wars: Complete Locations&amp;#039;&amp;#039; , updating the book to include scenes from &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Star Wars: Episode VII, The Force Awakens&amp;#039;&amp;#039; . Kemp studied Graphic Design at the University of Georgia in Athens, where he went primarily because he could go there for free as long as he kept a B average, paid for by the state lottery. He didn&amp;#039;t knew [[StarCitizen::Category:Concept art images|concept art]] was a profession until close to the end of his second to last year at university, He was drawing things for games and media he liked including &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[StarCitizen::Category:Worked on Warhammer|Warhammer]] 40k&amp;#039;&amp;#039; figurines, he thought he would be a comic book cover artist or editorial illustration or graphic designer in order to live from his art.
