Genesis is a collection of technological systems and processes within StarCitizen:Star Engine that create plausible planetary biomes and populates them not just with [[StarCitizen::Category:Fauna|fauna]] and [[StarCitizen::Category:Flora|flora]] but also StarCitizen:locations such as settlements.<ref name=":0">CitizenCon 2954: Day One [Full Broadcast], Star Citizen, YouTube, 2024-10-19</ref>

It's an essential part of creating a large number of planets and systems that still feel detailed and alive, in order to fill the entire Star Citizen universe without the developers having to place everything by hand.<ref name=":0" />

At the core of Genesis are a number of data-maps that are applied to a planet to determine data-driven ground texturing and the scattering of assets. Temperature and Humidity were already used for this in StarCitizen:Planet Tech v4. For Genesis and StarCitizen:Planet Tech v5 more were added including Geology, Soil Type and Soil Depth.

The end goal of it is that the simulation of the planet and how it’s built is physically accurate.<ref>Games that go too far with their graphics, Viva La Dirt League, Dec 23, 2024 </ref><ref>Is Star Citizen a Real Videogame?, interview with Chris Roberts, thisweekinvideogames.com, May 6 2026</ref>
