The World of Color Update is the name for Template:El 1.12, a major update released on June 7, 2017.

The official name for the update, the World of Color Update, was revealed on March 13, 2017, in a Template:W post by Minecraft:Owen Jones.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/5z5c7f/submit_your_colourful_builds_and_get_featured_in/</ref>

The first pre-release, 1.12-pre1, was released on May 10, 2017. This was followed by the second pre-release on May 11, the third on May 17, the fourth on May 18, the fifth on May 19, the sixth on May 29, and the seventh on May 31.

New Minecraft:blocks

• Template:Animate Minecraft:Bed in various different colors
• Template:Animate Minecraft:Concrete
  • Obtained by having Minecraft:concrete powder come in contact with Minecraft:water.
• Template:Animate Minecraft:Concrete Powder
  • Crafted using four Minecraft:sand, four Minecraft:gravel, and the corresponding Minecraft:dye color.
  • Is affected by gravity like sand and gravel.
  • Upon contact with water, it converts over to Minecraft:concrete.
• Template:Animate Minecraft:Glazed Terracotta
  • Obtained by smelting the corresponding Minecraft:stained terracotta color.
  • Can be oriented in four different directions.
  • Will not stick to Minecraft:slime blocks if placed on the side, top, or bottom.

New Minecraft:items

  • Only available through commands.
  • Used to unlock recipes to players who may have limited crafting recipes available.

New Minecraft:mobs

  • Only available through commands.
  • Will attack any players and Minecraft:villagers nearby.
  • Will summon duplicates of itself and inflict players with Minecraft:Blindness.
• Template:Animate Minecraft:Parrot
  • Spawns in Minecraft:jungles.
  • Flies around but sits when tired.
  • Can be tamed using Minecraft:seeds.
  • Can imitate sounds of nearby hostile mobs.
  • Will dance when music is being played in a Minecraft:jukebox.
  • Comes in five different colors: Red, Blue, Green, Cyan, and Gray.
  • Drops Minecraft:feathers when killed.
    • Using a Minecraft:cookie on the parrot will instantly kill them.

New Minecraft:gameplay

• Minecraft:Advancement
  • Replaces the previous achievement system added since Minecraft:Java Edition Beta.
  • Is a data-based system that can be customized via JSON files.
  • Has five tabs with the ability to add more:
    • Minecraft: The heart and story of the game.
    • Adventure: Adventure, exploration, and combat.
    • Nether: Bring summer clothes.
    • The End: Or the beginning?
    • Husbandry: The world is full of friends and food.
  • Advancements are capable of providing players rewards, such as experience points.
  • A number is shown indicating how much a player has towards completing a specific advancement.
  • Some advancements are indicated as a goal or a challenge.
    • Completing a challenge advancement rewards experience and plays a unique jingle.
• Minecraft:Recipe book
  • Shows a list of recipes that can be done through a Minecraft:crafting table.
  • Can be activated by clicking on the green-colored book.
  • When a recipe is clicked on, the materials required are placed on the crafting table.

Other additions

• Narrator – says what is typed in chat out loud (Template:Key to turn on).
• 4 new commands: Template:Cmd (replacing Template:Cmd), Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd
• New function system that loads a list of commands upon usage.
• The Minecraft:hotbar can now be saved and loaded in Creative mode (Template:Key to save and Template:Key to load).
• New sounds.

Notable changes

• The colors of Minecraft:banners, Minecraft:shulker boxes, and Minecraft:wool now has a new palette.
• Stricter Minecraft:NBT syntax in commands.

Further revisions

• 1.12.1 updated the game credits and fixed a security issue.
• 1.12.2 changed the name from Minecraft to Minecraft: Java Edition.
