The hunter is the lifeblood of the Moon Garou. The Umbral Sands are not as hospitable to agriculture as many would like, so diets must be supplemented with fresh meat. This is particularly true for the Moon Garou, who remain primarily carnivorous in nature.

One hunter, Flytr, was the first to craft a longbow from the yew trees in the oases. Legend had it that the trees were sacred, special, a gift of the River Mother, designed to keep the Moon Garou safe. It was the greatest of blasphemies to use the wood for anything, but Flytr had never been particularly concerned with matters of faith.

She found a tree that had been struck by lightning, to lessen the guilt of repurposing the wood. She whittled down branch and bough, to create the longbow and, when she was done, she could have sworn the weapon was excited to be used.

It felled foes at great range, making her one of the best hunters the tribe had ever seen. Soon after, yew trees were no longer protected, as it came to be believed that the strength of the bow was proof that the River Mother wanted the wood to be used.
