Old growth pine taigas or mega taigas are forested biomes covered with both large 2×2 and normal-sized spruce trees, with the tall trees being mostly arrow shaped with few leaves at the top. Uniquely to this biome, Zombie villagers have the highest spawn rate amongst all biomesjava.
The old growth pine taiga or mega taiga is a forested Minecraft:biome filled with large 2×2 Minecraft:spruce trees, with the tall trees being mostly arrow-shaped with few leaves at the top. The ground is made of Minecraft:podzol and coarse dirt and covered by mossy cobblestone rocks.

Old growth pine taigas generate at moderately low temperature, very high humidity and positive weirdness. They border groves, normal taigas, dark forests, windswept forests, and swamps. Old growth pine taigas can also border snowy taigas, meadows, and pale gardens at the tops of a plateau. At higher elevations they transition to groves and frozen peaks. Due to their very high humidity values, old growth pine taigas are almost guaranteed to have lush caves generate beneath them. They are often separated by rivers from old growth spruce taigas. In coastal areas they border cold oceans.

They are often separated by Minecraft:rivers from Minecraft:old growth spruce taigas, a variant with mega spruce trees that have leaves all around the trunk.

Old growth pine taigas can generate in any type of terrain, near Minecraft:swamps and Minecraft:windswept forests, or near Minecraft:mountains with Minecraft:grove slopes and nearby Minecraft:pale gardens. Due to their very high humidity values, old growth pine taigas are almost guaranteed to have Minecraft:lush caves generate beneath them.

As the name implies, an old growth pine taiga includes trees that have attained a great age, and therefore great height. These pines grow all over the landscape, while most of them are tall with 2×2 trunks, regular pine and spruce trees can also generate.

Pine grows all over the landscape, and most of them are the large 2×2 trees that grow significantly taller than regular trees. Much of the grass blocks are replaced by large swaths of Minecraft:podzol and coarse dirt. Additionally, rocks made of mossy cobblestone frequently generate on the ground and dead bushes generate alongside the sweet berry bushes, Minecraft:ferns, large ferns, and short grass on the ground. Minecraft:Mushrooms are more common here than most Minecraft:Overworld biomes. Trail ruins may generate here. Black wolves, foxes, and rabbits may spawn here. As the climate here is cold, rainfall changes to snowfall above layer Y=200±8.

Additionally, rocks made of Minecraft:mossy cobblestone frequently generate on the ground and Minecraft:dead bushes generate alongside the Minecraft:sweet berry bushes, Minecraft:ferns, and Minecraft:large ferns. Minecraft:Mushrooms are more common here than in most Overworld biomes.

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, old growth pine taigas use a coolish humid volumetric fog setting, which slightly fades the distance in an orange tint. Old growth pine taigas have default atmospherics and lighting similar to temperate biomes, but coolish color grading tints the environment with a colder blue color.
Minecraft:Trail ruins may generate here, but Minecraft:villages and Minecraft:pillager outposts cannot. Black Minecraft:wolves, Minecraft:foxes, and Minecraft:rabbits may spawn here. The climate is cold and allows Minecraft:snowfall above layer Y=200±8, but this only occurs on top of some trees on mountain slopes. Uniquely to this biome, Minecraft:zombie villagers have the highest spawn rate amongst all biomes.

There are overall more trees in old growth pine taigas compared to normal taigas, leading to increased foliage density. This makes wood more abundant, though as a large portion of it grows as part of tall 2×2 spruce trees, it may be more difficult to obtain. Old growth pine taigas are slightly more difficult for survival than regular taigas for this reason, though aren't so bad once acclimated and strategies are used to clear the tall trees; they may offer more unique views compared to regular taigas as well.
Minecraft:Abandoned camps sometimes generate in old growth pine taigas.Third Drop 2026

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, old growth pine taigas use a coolish humid volumetric fog setting, which slightly fades the distance in an orange tint. Old growth pine taigas have coolish color grading which tints the environment with a colder blue color, and cold sunlight which appears slightly brighter at dusk and dawn.

*The name “Old Growth Pine Taiga” may be misleading and is inaccurate as there are no pine trees in the game and they have spruce trees; there are currently no plans to add pines to the game. This is similar to Minecraft:Flint and Steel, as there is a lack of steel in the game and it is crafted with Iron. In real life, Iron can’t be used as a fire striker, so they had to use steel so it makes more sense.

Template:Infobox biome The old growth pine taiga or mega taiga is a forested Minecraft:biome filled with large 2×2 Minecraft:spruce trees, with the tall trees being mostly arrow-shaped with few leaves at the top. The ground is made of Minecraft:podzol and coarse dirt and covered by mossy cobblestone rocks.

Generation

Old growth pine taigas generate at moderately low temperature, very high Minecraft:humidity and positive weirdness. They commonly border regular Minecraft:taigas and dark forests.

Description

As the name implies, an old growth pine taiga includes trees that have attained a great age, and therefore great height. These pines grow all over the landscape, while most of them are tall with 2×2 trunks, regular pine and spruce trees can also generate.

Much of the Minecraft:grass blocks are replaced by large swaths of Minecraft:podzol and Minecraft:coarse dirt.

Minecraft:Trail ruins may generate here, but Minecraft:villages and Minecraft:pillager outposts cannot. Black Minecraft:wolves, Minecraft:foxes, and Minecraft:rabbitsTemplate:Only may spawn here. The climate is cold and allows Minecraft:snowfall above layer Y=200±8, but this only occurs on top of some trees on mountain slopes. Uniquely to this biome, Minecraft:zombie villagers have the highest spawn rate amongst all biomes.Template:Only

Minecraft:Abandoned camps sometimes generate in old growth pine taigas.Template:Upcoming
