Rotten flesh is a Minecraft:food item that can be Template:Control by Minecraft:players, but may inflict Hunger. It can also be safely fed to tamed Minecraft:wolves or sold to Minecraft:cleric Minecraft:villagers.

Cat gifts
Template:Main Tamed Minecraft:cats have a 70% chance of giving the Minecraft:player a gift when they wake up from a Minecraft:bed, and the gift has a 16.13% chance to be a rotten flesh.
Usage
Food
To eat rotten flesh, press and hold Template:Control while rotten flesh is selected in the hotbar.
Eating rotten flesh restores Template:Hunger Minecraft:hunger and 0.8 Minecraft:saturation, but has an 80% chance of inflicting Template:EffectLink for 30 seconds. If more is consumed and the Hunger status effect is inflicted, the duration does not accumulate, but instead resets to 30 seconds.
Wolves
