Unlike with net fishing, you must be a certain distance away from the fishing spot. Equip your fishing rod (and bait) and use the ''Cast'' action button (default: LMB) to cast your line towards the rod fishing spot. If you hold the button down longer, you will build up strength to cast your line out further. Should your casting strength be either too weak or strong, you ''will'' miss and be prompted to try again. Once you have successfully casted your line, wait a moment to get a bite from the fish. ''If you aren't wielding any bait, the chance to catch junk is more likely to happen than catching actual fish.''
If you manage to get a biting fish, you will need to tire it out before reeling it in. Use the ''Strafe Left/Right'' buttons (default: A/D) to pull the fish in the opposite direction. This will cause the fish to lose a greater amount of stamina and become easier to reel in. To reel in the fish, it is same button as the ''Cast'' action. Should you not tire out the fish and reel it in anyways, it will consume a greater amount of stamina and, eventually, escape.

Fishing is a skill that released on 21 April 2026 alongside the 0.11.1 update and is Dragonwilds' eleventh skill. While originally meant to be coupled with the release of Dragonwilds:Dowdun Reach, Jagex had confirmed to hold back on releasing the skill to fine-tune it more with the increased skill cap of 99.
To train this skill, players must use fishing-related tools (such as nets or fishing rods and bait) to catch fish in rivers and lakes. Fish can be used for Dragonwilds:Cooking, Dragonwilds:Crafting, or to just "show off with base trophies". Dragonwilds:Magic can also be used to interact with the Fishing skill in some way. Template:CiteGeneral
To begin training this skill, players must first make their first Dragonwilds:coarse net and start the Dragonwilds:Shrimp Catcher quest.

Mechanics
To train this skill, players must use the corresponding tools with their respective Fishing Spots. Nets can only be used in Net Fishing Spots and fishing rods (with bait) only work on Rod Fishing Spots.
Net Fishing
Stand within the range of your chosen net fishing spot while having your chosen net equipped. Use the Trawl action button (default: LMB) and begin to catch fish or junk (like Stone or Weeds). Unlike rod fishing, trawling only works within the range of a non-depleted fishing spot and nets can be used in any region, regardless of material, to catch fish.
If you attempt to fish in a depleted fishing spot, a notification will pop up informing you that there are no fish here.
Note: Each trawl will use up about 10 stamina.
Rod Fishing
Unlike with net fishing, you must be a certain distance away from the fishing spot. Equip your fishing rod (and bait) and use the Cast action button (default: LMB) to cast your line towards the rod fishing spot. If you hold the button down longer, you will build up strength to cast your line out further. Should your casting strength be either too weak or strong, you will miss and be prompted to try again. Once you have successfully casted your line, wait a moment to get a bite from the fish. If you aren't wielding any bait, the chance to catch junk is more likely to happen than catching actual fish.
If you manage to get a biting fish, you will need to tire it out before reeling it in. Use the Strafe Left/Right buttons (default: A/D) to pull the fish in the opposite direction. This will cause the fish to lose a greater amount of stamina and become easier to reel in. To reel in the fish, it is same button as the Cast action. Should you not tire out the fish and reel it in anyways, it will consume a greater amount of stamina and, eventually, escape.
Note: For best fishing effectiveness, it is recommended to equip the region-specific fishing rod and accompanying bait.
