Template:Joke feature Template:Infobox entity
Stencil displays are Minecraft:entities exclusive to the April Fools' snapshot 23w13a_or_b. They can only be created with the Template:Cmd command. It shares a lot of data tags with other Minecraft:display entities.
Usage
Considering that this entity renders with the same stencil buffer effect as the Bedrock edition entity shadows (enabled through voting in this update), it was likely used by developers as a reference for the implementation of shadow volumes in Java edition. Though the stencil display itself is not summoned, voting for Bedrock edition shadows will cause every entity to render a shadow under itself with a similar visual effect.
Appearance
The stencil display appears as the intersection between a cube sphere (Template:Code 0) or cylinder (Template:Code 1) and the terrain, filled in with a solid white color.
It also affects the color of the block outline when covering part of a block.
- Level of Detail
The stencil display's Template:Code tag controls the level of detail of its geometry (via the number of subdivisions). It is set to 0 by default, but can be modified using commands. It uses a cuboid volume at Template:Code 0, but more closely approximates a sphere as the Template:Code value increases, up to a maximum of 4.
- Shape
The Template:Code tag affects what shape the stencil display uses. By default, it's set to 0, creating a cuboid or spherical volume with Template:Code subdivisions. If set to 1, it will instead approximate a cylinder (starting as a triangular prism), with 3 + Template:Code sides.
- Color
The stencil display has a Template:Code tag, which affects the color used to fill in the stencil cutout where it intersects with the terrain. It differs from the Template:Code tag of other entities, as it affects the transparency of the stencil display in addition to the base color.
