12w16a is the second Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.3.1, released on April 19, 2012.<ref>Template:Cite</ref>

Added option to enable single-player commands to create world screen.
- The following commands are available: Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd, Template:Cmd, and Template:Cmd.
- These commands are enabled in previously generated Creative mode worlds.
- While using commands in singleplayer, the world around is paused, unlike in multiplayer.
Typing / then pressing Template:Key shows a list of available commands; pressing Template:Key while writing a command auto-completes its arguments.
Each command is now its own class internally.

Added a demo mode for non-premium users, which was not available until the full update was released.
- In the Minecraft:language files, a new text was added for the demo mode.
- The demo mode lasts for 5 in-game days (about 1 hour and 40 minutes) according to the language files.
- It also teaches the player how to use the Minecraft:controls and how to begin playing.

Items can now be deleted from the hotbar by shift-clicking while on the Creative mode item selection screen.
