1.16.5 Release Candidate 1 (known as 1.16.5-rc1 in the Minecraft:launcher) is the first and the only Minecraft:release candidate for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.16.5, released on January 13, 2021,<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> which addresses two critical stability issues. This is the first release candidate released in 2021.

This version was reuploaded around an hour later to change the version string from "1.16.5 Pre-release 1".

This is the first release candidate that was reuploaded since Minecraft:Java Edition RC2 on November 13, 2011.
This is the first time since development of 1.9 that a minor release has been in development during the snapshot phase of the following major release.
This version was released on the earliest calendar day out of all release candidates, on January 13.
