Stony peaks only generate on high mountain peaks in the moderately high temperature range, making them quite rare. Stony peaks are warmer Minecraft:mountain peak biomes completely made out of Minecraft:stone and Minecraft:calcite strips. It is the second rarest Overworld surface biome, after the Minecraft:windswept gravelly hills.

Generation

Stony peaks generate at the highest points of the surrounding landscape, in areas of low erosion and moderately high temperatures. They can appear as a single large peak, small hilltops, a ring of peaks around a valley, or a vast range stretching hundreds of blocks. Occasionally, they peak at the generation limit of Y=256.

Stony peaks are usually surrounded by Minecraft:forests and Minecraft:savanna plateaus. As the terrain descends, these biomes may give way to Minecraft:jungles, Minecraft:savannas, and Minecraft:plains, though these biomes can also border stony peaks directly. In cooler areas, stony peaks may transition into Minecraft:frozen peaks or Minecraft:jagged peaks as the range continues. In warmer areas, they may border any Minecraft:badlands biome variant, either as high, mountainous terrain or as flattening slopes and valleys. Rarely, stony peaks generate along coastlines, often forming massive shoreline cliffs.

The Minecraft:deep dark is extremely common beneath stony peaks. At shallower depths, Minecraft:dripstone caves are common, and Minecraft:lush caves may generate where humidity is high.

Description

This biome does not have any terrain layer blocks and directly exposes Minecraft:stone along with many ores. Minecraft:Strips of Minecraft:calcite are unique to this biome, and Minecraft:gravel replaces some stone. Template:IN, Minecraft:granite and Minecraft:andesite can continue generating here at much higher altitudes.

Like other mountain peak biomes, Minecraft:emerald ore and Minecraft:infested stone can generate here as well as more Minecraft:iron ore and Minecraft:coal ore, more often exposed to the surface than anywhere else. Minecraft:Pillager outposts generate here, while no passive mobs can spawn.

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, stony peaks use warmish atmospherics, lighting, and color grading similar to Minecraft:jungles, although they use default volumetric Minecraft:fog. This makes the night sky appear slightly less dark, and moonlight is much brighter blue.
