Beginnings=

The Perseus was first constructed in the late 2520s, a few years before the StarCitizen:Xi'an-Human Cold War. These gunships were frequently deployed along the StarCitizen:Perry Line, making them a regular fixture after Xi'an-Human first Contact in 2530.<ref name="PerseusBrochure">Template:Cite RSI</ref> |-|

Retired=

In 2863, RSI retired the Perseus from production due to a lack of interest from the UEEN.<ref name="PerseusBrochure"/> |-|

Vanduul War=

During StarCitizen:Operation Mandrake in StarCitizen:2946 in the StarCitizen:Vanduul War, the aging Perseus StarCitizen:UEES Achilles managed to take down two Vanduul destroyers when the ship was damaged beyond repair. Due to its performance, UEEN Admiral StarCitizen:Ernst Bishop personally lobbied RSI to start producing Perseus models again for use against the StarCitizen:Vanduul.<ref name="PerseusBrochure"/> |-|

Civilian version=

Following Perseus success against the Vanduul, RSI expanded development to include a civilian version under the StarCitizen:Militia Mobilization Initiative.<ref name="galactapedia">Template:Cite RSI</ref> The new Perseus, equipped with modernized weapons and a redesigned lower deck that could accommodate cargo vehicles<ref name="PerseusBrochure"/> was released on day 9 of the StarCitizen:Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2950 <ref name="iae2950yt">Star Citizen: IAE 2950 – Roberts Space Industries on YouTube</ref> event. </tabber>

Development

Template:Timeline styles

2020-07 John Crewe put together the design brief. Paul Jones and Gavin Rothery created the concept artwork, with principle work beginning in July 2020.
2020-11-28 The Perseus was publicly revealed during IAE 2950.
2020-12-18 Chris Roberts wanted a ship that stood apart from the standard battleship or the destroyers, torpedo boats, carriers, etc already added to the line-up. He chose the ironclad gunboat as the inspiration. In the initial stages, the Perseus' was referred to as "RSI Gunboat", not receiving its final name until very late in the concept development process.<ref name="JP812">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
2025-11-19 The Perseus became flyable with the launch of Alpha 4.4.0, but is to be properly unveiled on RSI day of IAE 2955.

Trivia

  • In Greek mythology, Perseus, son of Danae and Zeus, is recognized as the fabled founder of the Perseid dynasty. Alongside figures such as Cadmus and Bellerophon, he stands as one of the most prominent Greek heroes and a renowned monster slayer prior to the era of Heracles. Perseus famously decapitated the Gorgon Medusa on behalf of Polydectes and rescued Andromeda from the clutches of the sea monster Cetus.<ref>Wikipedia Perseus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perseus</ref>
  • Perseus is also a constellation located in the northern hemisphere that is named after the legendary Greek hero. It features the luminous star Mirfak, the variable star Algol, and serves as the radiant point for the yearly Perseid meteor shower which is observable between the months of July and August.
