Those joining the Fellhollow military who were not from the more noble bloodlines would go into the force known as hoplites. This force of warrior farmers named themselves after the hoplites of Hallow, legendary forces spoken of in some of the Saradominist text.
When the withering began, it was the hoplites that were most affected. Their unity and loyalty became a weakness, as members within their ranks fell to the affliction and then turned on the others. This shattered their synchronicity and spread paranoia and distrust among the ranks.
As their members fell, they would rise as the undead and immediately turn on their brethren, ripping the group apart from the inside.
At least in death they stand together again.
