Template:For Template:Infobox block The soul lantern is a Minecraft:block that emits Minecraft:light. It is a variant of the Minecraft:lantern, and is crafted from a Minecraft:soul torch.

Soul lanterns can generate in Minecraft:ancient cities.

Usage

Template:Main Similarly to other types of lanterns, soul lanterns can either be placed on top of, or hung from, the surfaces of most solid blocks (though some blocks will require Template:Control).

To place a soul lantern on top of a block, aim at the block's top face, and press Template:Control. To hang a soul lantern from the bottom of a block, aim at the block's bottom face, and press Template:Control. Also similarly to other lanterns, if a soul lantern is hung from the bottom face of a Minecraft:chain, the lantern and the chain will connect seamlessly.

Soul lanterns can also be placed by pressing Template:Control on a block adjacent to an air block the soul lantern could occupy, much like other types of lantern. Pressing Template:Control on the top half of the adjacent block will hang the lantern from the bottom of an above block, and pressing Template:Control on the bottom half of the adjacent block will place the lantern down on the top face of a bottom block.

Like other types of lantern, if a soul lantern exists on an invalid surface (a surface where the soul lantern could not normally be placed on), the soul lantern will break and drop itself, upon the invalid surface receiving a Minecraft:block update.

Light

Soul lanterns emit a light level of 10, which is 5 light levels less than that of normal lanterns. Due to their lower light level, soul lanterns do not melt Minecraft:snow or Minecraft:ice.

When the Minecraft:Render Dragon Features for Creators experiment is enabled in Minecraft:Minecraft Preview, the inside of soul lanterns emits point lighting with a cool, cyan color (Template:Color). The casing of the soul lantern blocks parts of the light, and casts shadows around the lantern.

Piglins

Soul lanterns repel Minecraft:piglins, but not Minecraft:piglin brutes.

Piston interactivity

Soul lanterns are destroyed when a Minecraft:piston attempts to push it. Soul lanterns also cannot be pulled by sticky pistons.
