An explorer pottery sherd is a pottery sherd that depicts a Minecraft:map. It can be found in cold ocean ruins.

Breaking a decorated pot causes it to drop all of the Minecraft:bricks and pottery sherds used to craft it, meaning it drops each of the explorer pottery sherds that were used to craft it.
