It was based on a mispronunciation by the technical designer StarCitizen:Corentin Billemont from the StarCitizen:Around the Verse Holiday Special 2017.<ref>Ship Shape: Tumbril Nova</ref> Having been added to in-game shirts, "Tonk" is technically canon.
