Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, is used by Cloud Imperium Games developers in toolsets, tooling, work, to manage large datasets<ref name=":0">Quantum Vegas 2955: Session 1: "Tech & Tools" with Sean Tracy, Quantum Vegas 2955, Youtube, 21 July 2025</ref>
There's little bits and pieces of LLMs that are leveraged for toolsets. It's one of the best query languages in the world, where any kind of data can be queried in any language and the AI will figure its way through it. For example a developer can ask the LLM to query the entire dataforge directory and ask "What's the recoil characteristics on every single weapon, is there one that's way out, show me a diagram", and the AI will parse through it and show the diagram.<ref name=":0" /> CIG typically uses AI for their tools to make things easier for programmers and the processes faster, rather than for work inside the games.<ref name=":1">Paroles d'expert: la voix du gaming, Morocco Gaming Expo, Youtube, 28 July 2026</ref>
In 2026 StarCitizen:Erin Roberts said that the costs of AI don't really justify what can be gotten from it when in some cases extra people can be hired instead.<ref name=":1" />
NPC AI
On the scale of StarCitizen:Star Citizen, CIG would need billions of conversations happening with NPCs, but that would mean people to write that much. AI would solve that scaling problem, but technically it becomes very problematic. AI needs powerful GPU hardware to run on, while gamers don't want a large chunk of their GPU being used just for that. This means a CPU approach, which is going to be slower and needs to be worked smarter. StarCitizen:Marco Corbetta has some ideas and is working on some R&D.<ref name=":0" />
Voice AI
CIG partenered with ElevenLabs, a company that has built an AI voice platform.<ref>"ElevenLabs is a growth-stage startup that has built the most realistic AI voice platform [...] and partnered with [...] gaming studios (Paradox, Cloud Imperium Games, Don’t Nod).", elevenlabs.io, January 2025</ref>
Other AI
If AI can be included, it could potentially be used in various says, such as a StarCitizen:MobiGlas assistant, a MobiGlas copilot, custom in-game advertisements, random advertisements, random text, etc.<ref name=":0" />
