Beginnings=
The Starfarer came about as a result of an 18-month survey of space travel which resulted in a 15,000-page study on ship roles and the current shortcomings faced by space pilots. The study concluded with the decision to produce a spacecraft capable of fuel collection, refining, storage and distribution to other ships in flight.<ref name="MISC Galactic Guide">Template:Cite RSI</ref> |-|
Development=
Development of the Starfarer began in StarCitizen:2870 as a result of MISC's study. Preceding this craft, the role was filled by a number of massive supertankers, notorious for being dangerous and ineffective.<ref name=":0">Template:Cite Jump Point</ref> This had lead to a pirate rule of thumb that "a ship caught refueling could be captured intact, as no captain would ever risk a firefight breaking out". The safety and ease of use of these crafts have seen them become the standard for space refueling, with many being upgraded with refining mechanisms that can refine collected fuel, ready for use. A final upgrade allows the fuel tanks to be swapped out altogether, to be replaced by a cargo chassis for goods transport. However, this has proven unpopular compared to the versatile StarCitizen:Freelancer or the specialised Hull series.<ref name="MISC Galactic Guide" /> |-|
Safety=
One way MISC envisioned making refueling safer with the Starfarer was to do the exact opposite of what it did with the Hull-Series, making a large hull capable of holding internal fuel tanks under armored protection. The ship still needed a way to process fuel, however. Addressing this need meant developing technology that could safely collect spaceborne hydrogen, something that pre-mass production was as expensive as the ship itself.<ref name=":0" /> |-|
Reception=
While the initial reception to the Starfarer was poor, it wasn't anything that MISC hadn't predicted. Within six months of limited release sales, MISC had raised enough funds to establish new lines for the next seven years.<ref name=":0" /> By StarCitizen:2878 MISC began offering modifications such as converting the fuel tanks to become liquid foodstuff storage units.<ref name="MISC Galactic Guide" /> In StarCitizen:2895 amidst a need for a faster, more maneuverable, and better armored version of the Starfarer became apparent as the UEE fell prey to attacks by the StarCitizen:Vanduul, leading to the advent of the StarCitizen:Starfarer Gemini.<ref name=":0" /> </tabber>
