A Minecraft Sequel<ref>Template:Tweet</ref><ref>Template:Citation</ref><ref>Template:Citation</ref> is an upcoming sequel to Template:AMCM based on the video game Minecraft:Minecraft. The film is set to be directed by Minecraft:Jared Hess and written by Hess and Template:W, and is slated to be released on July 23, 2027, by Minecraft:Warner Bros. Pictures.<ref name="AMCM2">Template:Citation</ref>

Plans for the film originated around April 11, 2025 following the success of A Minecraft Movie when it was reported by several outlets that a sequel was already in early development.<ref>Template:Citation</ref><ref name=":Comic">Template:Citation</ref>

Production

Development

On March 30, 2025, during the Template:AMCM premiere of Template:AMCM, Minecraft:Jared Hess expressed interest in the idea of making a sequel, noting the world's use of infinite Minecraft:mods, Minecraft:characters, and Minecraft:biomes, outlining how Minecraft is virtually endless.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref><ref>Template:Citation</ref> He later stated that there were many ideas they had for the film that they were unable to use, but would likely be included as part of a sequel.<ref name=deadline>Template:Citation</ref>

On April 8, 2025, Jared Hess said that there were talks about a sequel in development.<ref>Template:Citation</ref> On April 11, 2025, it was reported by several outlets that a sequel was in early development.<ref name=":Comic" /> A day later, the CEO of Warner Bros. confirmed that there would be a follow-up film.<ref>Template:Citation</ref> At the end of an interview released by The Art of VFX in May 2025 discussing the film, the VFX supervisor Sheldon Stopsack and the animation supervisor Kevin Estey both refer to a hypothetical sequel as "Another Minecraft Movie."<ref name="sequelname">Template:Citation</ref> Some media outlets have so far referred to the sequel as "A Minecraft Movie 2" or "Minecraft 2".<ref name="AMCM2"/><ref name="2name">Template:Citation</ref>

On October 9, 2025, the official A Minecraft Movie Twitter account posted a teaser announcing that a sequel was set to release on July 23, 2027.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> That same day, it was reported that Jared Hess would return to direct, while also writing the script alongside Chris Galletta. Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Jason Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Mary Parent are set to return as producers alongside Eric McLeod and Kayleen Walters.<ref name="AMCM2"/>

On March 19, 2026, it was reported that Jill Messick would be given a posthumous credit as a producer.<ref name=MarchInfo>Template:Citation</ref>

Casting

On April 2, 2025, Minecraft:Jack Black and Minecraft:Jason Momoa were asked many questions in a Q&A for the film. Black was asked if he would be playing Minecraft:Herobrine in a sequel. His response was "Dude, you want to know if there’s Hero Brian in the sequel? We don’t know. We don't know... I hope so."<ref>Template:Citation</ref>

On April 4, 2025, Minecraft:Emma Myers and Minecraft:Sebastian Hansen told Yahoo UK how likely they thought a sequel would be. Emma said that she would love to do as many as they want, saying "Oh yeah, please. Minecraft 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 — as many as they'll have me in I would love to do!" Sebastian revealed that it would be be "great [to] keep it going" but also is unsure how it could go about because of the way in which the movie tells a story entirely new to the world of the game so that means a potential sequel could go anywhere and do anything, which is an overwhelming concept.<ref>Template:Citation</ref>

In March 2026, it was reported that Kirsten Dunst would star in the film as Alex, with Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge returning.<ref name=MarchInfo/>

Filming

The film is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and is currently slated to be theatrically released in North America on July 23, 2027.<ref name="AMCM2"/>
