Minecraft:Sulfur cubes have the ability to absorb sulfur, either through picking it up or being interacted with it. This provides the regular/football effect to the mob when hitting it.

Prior to the addition of sulfur as a separate material, Minecraft:gunpowder was initially referred to as "sulphur", before being renamed in Minecraft:Java Edition Beta 1.3.
