Accelerated Mass Design (AMD) is a StarCitizen:human electronics design and tuning company founded in 2899. It focuses mainly on components for consumer spaceflight, such as the UE-9300 expansion card, and has partnered with the spacecraft manufacturers StarCitizen:Anvil Aerospace and StarCitizen:Consolidated Outland to provide exclusive parts for their products.<ref name="galactapedia">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
History
In 2899, StarCitizen:Sander Katt and a team of six other engineers left their design positions at StarCitizen:Ayre Semisonic to form a company focused on high-level design. In 2901, the company released its first product, the UE-9300 expansion card. Designed for near-absolute-zero operation, it served as a high-end replacement for the aging CarthSys Multidock and drew interest from both luxury and military spacecraft manufacturers.<ref name="portfolio">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
For its first dozen years, the company concentrated on streamlining and improving the efficiency of existing technology. By 2908, it had established a dedicated bureau for taking in other companies' standard production technologies and tuning them beyond their original design limitations, and AMD-branded versions of components ranging from escape hatches to laser cannons became sought-after accessories.<ref name="portfolio" />
In 2920, AMD signed a two-decade development deal with StarCitizen:Anvil Aerospace, supplying high-level circuitry for several military spacecraft in exchange for exclusive branding. The arrangement proved lucrative as Anvil launched civilian-branded variants of its Hornet and Gladiator lines. By the late 2930s, however, demand for the F7C Hornet had outstripped AMD's capacity to manufacture internal parts, leading Anvil to source components elsewhere as the contract allowed. AMD declined a third decade with Anvil and instead operated as an independent ship component synthesizer.<ref name="portfolio" />
In 2940, the company teamed with StarCitizen:Consolidated Outland during the early development of the Mustang program, financing a portion of the prototyping in exchange for exclusive branding rights to a dedicated racing variant. AMD embedded two of its designers, Bryce Halliday and Jennifer Aykers, both hired away from StarCitizen:MISC's spacecraft design bureau, with StarCitizen:Silas Koerner's Mustang team. The resulting AMD-exclusive spacecraft, the StarCitizen:Mustang Omega, added a ramped-up fuel intake for faster hydrogen recycling that enhanced the ship's boost system and straight-line speed.<ref name="portfolio" />
Trivia
- In StarCitizen:lore, AMD is best known for its sponsorship of the StarCitizen:Consolidated Outland StarCitizen:Mustang Omega.
- Accelerated Mass Design is based on the real-world company Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
- The 2014 StarCitizen:AMD Never Settle Space Edition bundle included a Mustang Omega in AMD racing livery with the purchase of an AMD Radeon R9 or R7 series graphics card.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
