Garou magic is not born of runes, but of their connection to the moon, the stars and the spirits within them. Moon Garou shamans dance in the moonlight, with the glittering moon sprites swirling around them in mystical threads that help to reshape reality. Magic is sacred, spiritual and serene. Shamans wears these robes so that the tribe may know to call on them for spiritual aid, both magical and personal, as the shamans act as counsel as much as magician.

These robes are only given to a shaman after completing three mystic trials. The first is a trial of contemplation, where each applicant is given a complicated riddle to solve and three nights in which to do so. During that time they are allowed no forms of communication, and must rely purely on their ability to contemplate the words and arrive at a solution. The answers to the riddle are rarely set in stone: it is the interpretation that matters.

The second is a trial of compassion, and they are never warned of this one in advance. Indeed the trial may have happened before the applicant even entered into training. They could be tested at any point in their lives. It’s a simple trial: the applicant at some point finds someone in need and how they go about helping, or not helping them, is noted for the trial. This weeds out the cruel people pretending to be shamans, and encourages an attitude of compassion in potential applicants.

The final trial is the hardest of all, the trial of creativity. Here the applicants are given time to study magic, its forms, its methods and its malleability. To complete this trial, the applicant must create a new spell, enchantment or other form of magic, that has never been seen before. This trial has led to some of the most beautiful discoveries… and some of the most terrifying.
