Players should equip any level 4 Dragonwilds:armour of their combat choice, as they have the same set effect and stats. Below is a set up of a basic and advanced In the inventory, there is a suggested item to either switch to or use if you prefer them over the ones listed in the equipment or hotbar slots.

This set up will require a timely dodge, parry and attacks to avoid taking too much damage. <tabber> Basic Melee= Template:Inventory |-| Basic Ranged= Template:Inventory |-| Basic Magic= Template:Inventory </tabber>

Advance Preset

The advance preset is for players who are looking to do more damage while tanking enough damage as well, require a bit more resources and material. This set up will still require timely dodges and attacks to avoid going through your potions and wardstones. This setup is recommended against Velgar's Hard Mode strategy. <tabber> Advance Melee= Template:Inventory |-| Advance Ranged= Template:Inventory |-| Advance Magic= Template:Inventory </tabber>

Strategy

Velgar in both Normal and Hard mode can be soloed or done with more player in the party. Velgar main attacks are his hands slam, claw strike, bite and head swing when in melee range. His poison breath and earthen spikes when in range. Velgar has 4 phases. At the end of phase 1 - 3 he will fly into the air and rain poison around the arena, forcing you to evade them. Pay attention to the ground for a red-orange ring, and avoid being in it.

Velgar can easily be taken down by just standing on the horn's holder; by standing on it, you will evade close combat and ground spikes that do a lot of damage, but you will absorb poison damage, which requires healing. It is recommended to use the highest healing food you can cook to lessen the usage of needing to eat. During Velgar's rain poison attacks, it is possible to be knocked off from the horn's holder if you are using the strategy to stand on it. If you are knocked off, simply run and jump back on it. Damage increases significantly from ground spikes in the last phase because Velgar will use three spikes at a time instead of one.

Air magic is very effective against Velgar because it excels at high single-target damage. You can defeat Velgar even faster with the usage of potions that buffs your magic critical chance hits and using Magic armor for the set effect of casting Magic attacks faster. If you are standing on the horn's holder, it is recommended to wear Magic armor for the best defense against his rain poison attacks if it ever directly hits you.
