Minecraft:Copper Lantern

Template:For Template:Infobox block A copper lantern is a Minecraft:copper variant of a Minecraft:lantern that displays a green flame and oxidizes over time.

A copper lantern can be mined with anything, but Minecraft:pickaxes are the fastest. A copper lantern also breaks and drops itself if a Minecraft:piston extends or pushes a block into its location, or if its supporting block is moved or destroyed.

Natural generation

Usage

Template:MainSimilarly to other types of lanterns, copper lanterns can either be placed on top of, or hung from, the surfaces of most solid blocks (though some blocks will require sneaking).

To place a copper lantern on top of a block, aim at the block's top face, and press use. To hang a copper lantern from the bottom of a block, aim at the block's bottom face, and press use. Also similarly to other lanterns, if a copper lantern is hung from the bottom face of a chain, the lantern and the chain will connect seamlessly.

Soul lanterns can also be placed by pressing use on a block adjacent to an air block the copper lantern could occupy, much like other types of lantern. Pressing use on the top half of the adjacent block will hang the lantern from the bottom of an above block, and pressing use on the bottom half of the adjacent block will place the lantern down on the top face of a bottom block.

Like other types of lantern, if a copper lantern exists on an invalid surface (a surface where the copper lantern could not normally be placed on), the copper lantern will break and drop itself, upon the invalid surface receiving a block update.

Light

The copper lantern is among the most luminous of light sources, emitting a light level of 15. Copper lanterns also melt snow layers within 2 blocks and Minecraft:ice within 3 blocks (Minecraft:taxicab distance).

When the Minecraft:Render Dragon Features for Creators experiment is enabled in Minecraft:Minecraft Preview, the inside of all copper lanterns emits colored point lighting with Template:Color for the unaffected unwaxed variant, and Template:Color for all other variants. The casing of the copper lantern blocks a part of the light and casts some shadows around the lantern.

Oxidation

Template:Main Non-waxed copper lanterns have four stages of oxidation (including the initial normal state). Minecraft:Lightning bolts and Minecraft:axes can remove the oxidation on copper lanterns. Using a Minecraft:honeycomb on a copper lantern prevents it from oxidizing.

As the block begins to oxidize (exposed), it gets discolored and green spots begin to appear. As the oxidation continues (weathered), the block is a green color with brown spots. In the last stage (oxidized), the block is teal with several green spots.

Unlike Minecraft:copper bulbs, the light level of a copper lantern is unaffected by its oxidation stage; even an oxidized copper lantern will still emit a light level of 15.
