Preface
"I wish to mate with Zeratak, mammal. I wish it but it cannot be without my death. Do you see the issue? I must provide sustenance for the young, and traditionally that would be my body.
A new tradition is needed. Perhaps some other creatures would work just as well. But I should get a lot of them... just to be on the safe side. Deer innards are preferable. But they run so fast!
