Linux support for StarCitizen:Star Citizen is officially planned, and therefore support for StarCitizen:Squadron 42 is also expected.<ref>PAX East 2014 Panel - "The (Incredible) Future of PC Gaming", StarCitizen:Chris Roberts at Pax East 2014, PC Gamer on YouTube, 12 Apr 2014</ref><ref name=":0">Template:Cite RSI</ref> It is not clear whether this will be a native Linux client, or simply support to run the Windows client of the game on Linux via certain compatibility layers.

There is an active group of Linux players within the Star Citizen community called the "Linux Users Group" who have developed their own tools and documentation to help players run the Windows client of the game on a variety of Linux distributions. They provide continuous feedback to StarCitizen:CIG to point out issues with the StarCitizen:RSI Launcher, StarCitizen:EAC, and the game itself to help the developers keep the game working on Linux distros. <ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>

This is done with the help of compatibility layers such as Wine. A native Linux client does not exist. Over the years, CIG has patched out several issues that made the game unplayable on Linux using these compatibility layers. <ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
