Minecraft:Stony Peaks
More actions
Stony peaks are warmer Minecraft:mountain peak biomes completely made out of Minecraft:stone and Minecraft:calcite strips.
Generation
Stony peaks only generate on high mountain peaks in the moderately high temperature range, making them quite rare. Depending on the continentalness, erosion, and weirdness, stony peaks can take on many different shapes; small hilltops not much higher than Y=160, large singular mountain peaks, rings of peaks surrounding a valley, or extreme mountainous terrain with rugged terrain up to the generation limit of Y=256.
Stony peaks are often surrounded by Minecraft:forests and Minecraft:savanna plateaus before the valley biomes like Minecraft:savannas and Minecraft:jungles, although they may border jungles directly.
They never generate close to Minecraft:mangrove swamps or Minecraft:windswept savannas. When near an Minecraft:ocean, the surrounding terrain gets cut off into massive cliffs. Minecraft:River valleys are either deep fjords, or have no river biome and consist of elevated land biomes.
Minecraft:Deep dark is guaranteed below stony peaks, generating up to higher altitudes. Above this, Minecraft:dripstone caves are common, although Minecraft:lush caves may also generate.
Description
The biome does not have any terrain layer blocks and directly exposes Minecraft:stone along with many ores. Minecraft:Strips of Minecraft:calcite are unique to this biome, and Minecraft:gravel replaces some stone. Template:IN, Minecraft:granite and Minecraft:andesite can continue generating here at much higher altitudes.
Like other mountain peak biomes, Minecraft:emerald ore and Minecraft:infested stone can generate here as well as more Minecraft:iron ore and Minecraft:coal ore, more often exposed to the surface than anywhere else. Minecraft:Pillager outposts generate here, while no passive mobs can spawn.
With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, stony peaks use warmish atmospherics, lighting, and color grading similar to Minecraft:jungles, although they use default volumetric Minecraft:fog. This makes the night sky appear slightly less dark, and moonlight is much brighter blue.

Snowy mountain biomes would generate directly next to hot biomes in early caves and cliffs development - this is why the stony peaks biome was added.
