What is the Irradiated Valakkar?
The Irradiated Valakkar is a variant of the standard Valakkar (the iconic "sandworm" creature). The Valakkar is native to Leir III and became an invasive species on Monox in the Pyro system. The irradiated variant has been exposed to prolonged radiation, giving it unusual properties and distinctive coloration compared to its regular counterpart. Star Citizen Wiki
Valakkars come in three life stages: juveniles (~5m long, found near mineral deposits just under the surface), adults (~15m long, which become aggressive when their litter is threatened), and apex specimens, which can grow up to an enormous 300 metres. Star Citizen Wiki
Loot & Harvestables
Irradiated Valakkars drop several unique harvestable items:
- Fangs (Juvenile, Adult, Apex) — shed naturally as the animal burrows and hunts, and can also be extracted after death. They develop unusual coloration due to radiation exposure. The Apex fang is massive at 5.6m long. Star Citizen Wiki
- Pearls (Grade C through AAA) — formed when grit penetrates the valakkar's hide and the skin encases it in layers of organic matter. Due to radiation exposure, irradiated pearls develop unusual properties. Star Citizen Wiki
- Hide — thick skin that grows over a forming valakkar pearl.
The Storm Breaker Mission
The main way to fight an Irradiated Apex Valakkar is through the Storm Breaker mission chain. Storm Breaker is a full-spectrum mission set in Pyro IV and the Lazarus Facilities, involving FPS combat, shuttle drops, radiation zones, and ultimately summoning and fighting the Adult/Apex Valakkar. The kill shot involves powering up the ATLS IKTI combat vehicle. Roberts Space Industries
There's also a Rayari contract for gathering fangs: Rayari sends contractors to collect irradiated valakkar fangs from adults found inside a storm at a mission-given location, offering premium pay due to the danger involved.
