SELF-LAND is a StarCitizen:human spacecraft hangar manufacturer responsible for a series of modular, budget berths produced under the same name. It was founded in the mid-29th century by StarCitizen:Peter Weatherman, a wealthy guild-licensed shipper who made his living on the active spacelanes and whose StarCitizen:Starfarer was stripped to its hull plating after he was jumped by a gang of thieves in an open hangar. As a result of this experience, Weatherman started the company to create a system of enclosed, private hangars that could be placed easily at any settlement and rely on a unified supply chain for maintenance and support. The hangars sold well and have since become a common sight around the StarCitizen:United Empire of Earth (UEE).<ref name="galactapedia">Template:Cite RSI</ref>

History

Weatherman founded SELF-LAND on the philosophy that the temporary hangars available to transiting pilots were inaccessible, unaffordable, and most importantly unsafe. Starting in the mid-29th century, the company began a franchising-based expansion across the Human-inhabited galaxy. The first SELF-LAND was established by Weatherman on StarCitizen:Vann in the Croshaw System, and the company soon expanded to a dozen worlds and then a hundred. SELF-LAND maintains that it operates at least one facility on every world in the StarCitizen:UEE, with some planets, Terra chief among them, holding as many as sixty complexes.<ref name="GGHM">Template:Cite RSI</ref>

SELF-LAND hangars are fully modular and environmentally controlled. Prefabricated from the most common available metals, they are built for comfort and familiarity rather than appearance, so that the experience on a colony world near StarCitizen:Vanduul space is the same as that of a pilot berthing on StarCitizen:Earth. The company handles every part of the process, from structure design to land titles. Because of their modular design, a single hangar type can be configured to skyscraping heights, across the breadth of a plain, stacked underground, or honeycombed deep within asteroids.<ref name="GGHM" />
