16w05b is the fifty-third Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.9, released on February 4, 2016,<ref name="blogpost_16w05b">Template:Link</ref> to fix issues with the previous snapshots.

Minecraft:Armor

• Armor reduction in effective defense points due to attack strength now allows the effective defense to go as low as 20% of the armor points (was 25% since Minecraft:16w02a).

Gameplay

• Attack cooldown effect increased: now quadratic 20%–100% (was linear 50%–100% since Minecraft:16w02a).

Minecraft:Explosions

• Damage increased to (impact×impact+impact)×7×power+1 (was (impact×impact+impact)×4.5×power+1 since Minecraft:16w02a).

General

Minecraft:Chat

• Box is slightly higher than before.

F3 Minecraft:debug screen

• In the bottom left corner on the main menu and the top left of the F3 debug screen, the version type is now displayed after the version number.
  • Example: "16w05b/snapshot".

Trivia

• 16w05b was previously removed from the Minecraft:launcher for some time, but was added back in September 2018.
