Minecraft:Dark Oak Leaves

Template:Infobox block Dark oak leaves are biome-colored Minecraft:leaves that form the canopy of Minecraft:dark oak trees, and can drop Minecraft:apples.

Breaking

Minecraft:Hoes are the default tools for breaking leaves, but leaves can be obtained only with Minecraft:shears or tools Minecraft:enchanted with Minecraft:Silk Touch.

Without shears, dark oak leaves can drop 1 Minecraft:dark oak sapling, 1—2 Minecraft:sticks, and 1 Minecraft:apple. Minecraft:Fortune increases the chances.

Natural generation

Dark oak leaves form the canopy of Minecraft:dark oak trees in Minecraft:dark forests. They also generate in Minecraft:woodland mansions.

Usage

Template:Main Dark oak leaves that decay have the same drop chances as when broken by a player, yielding 1 Minecraft:dark oak sapling 5% (Template:Frac) of the time, 1-2 Minecraft:sticks 2% of the time, and 1 Minecraft:apple 0.5% (Template:Frac) of the time. It is extremely rare but possible for a single leaf to drop a sapling, two sticks and an apple at the same time. Leaves that are burned do not drop saplings or apples.

Redstone component

Template:Exclusive The state of a leaves block—including a player-placed block—changes after 1 game tick (half a redstone tick) when the distance to the nearest Minecraft:log or Minecraft:wood block changes, up to 6 blocks of leaves away. Minecraft:Observers facing away from the leaves detect this change and transmit a redstone signal in the same game tick, making leaves useful for redstone signal transmission.

Piston interactivity

Leaves are destroyed when pushed by Minecraft:pistons. They do not stick to Minecraft:sticky pistons, Minecraft:slime blocks, or Minecraft:honey blocks.

Composting

Dark oak leaves have a 30% chance of increasing the compost level in a Minecraft:composter by 1. A stack of leaves yields an average of 3.05 Minecraft:bone meal.

Color

Template:Main Template:Needs render Dark oak leaves have unique colors based on the Minecraft:biome they are placed in.

In the inventory, dark oak leaves are colored Template:Color in Java Edition, or use pre-colored textures in Bedrock Edition.

Biome colors

These values are generated by the biome dyeing algorithm. Template:IN, biome colors also appear on Minecraft:maps.

In any biome with a base temperature of below 0.15, dark oak leaves gradually fade to white once Minecraft:snowfall begins, giving them a frosted appearance for the storm's duration. During transition, the white color is blended with the regular color in eight steps. After snowfall ends, leaves gradually fade back to their normal coloration.

This does not affect leaves in biomes with a higher base temperature, even at altitudes that allow snowfall. The change is entirely invisible to the client if the graphics mode is set to Simple, though it still takes place, and leaves are the correct color phase for the time if the option is re-enabled.

Particles

Dark oak leaves produce falling leaves Minecraft:particles underneath the leaf block, where they slowly fall to the ground. They have the same color as the leaves they're falling from, which can change with the biome or during snowfall.Template:Only

History

Trivia

• Occasionally, leaves grow through other blocks, acting as though they are still connected to the tree. They may also completely replace blocks they try to grow into.
• Some trees seem to occasionally drop apples or saplings without being destroyed due to creation of leaf blocks not supported by logs.
