The Naturesphere is a dangerous magical device. It may be related to the Great Weather Machine that destroyed Ilmari long before the Rakshasa arrived on Alharth, turning it from farmland to desert.
"The Naturesphere continues to confound me. It seems to be leaking an incomprehensible amount of magic. But what amazing power! This will succeed where my other experiments have failed. The mantises, the brain beasts, all of those can wait. I have a better idea for an army...
