Bremen Defense Force (BDF) is a [[StarCitizen::Category:Militias|civilian volunteer militia]] tasked with defending the StarCitizen:Bremen system and upholding the law and order, alongside StarCitizen:United Empire of Earth military, the StarCitizen:Advocacy and local police agencies like the StarCitizen:Rytif Police Force.<ref name="pf16748">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
History
The Bremen Defense Force was created under the governorship of StarCitizen:Arcturus Koerner, acting on a proposal by StarCitizen:Philippe Lattimore to cover a security vacuum left by the StarCitizen:Second Tevarin War. It proved itself to be an effective crime deterrent up until the grain market crash of 2640, when the loss of revenue risked the financing of the militia.
However, the economic crisis let to a rise in crime, wich made politically desirable to have a strong system defense militia funded with both public and private capital.<ref name="pf16748" />
Fall of the Messer regime
The efficiency of the Bremen Defense Force in maintaining law and order in the system let to its survival under the Messer regime. Despite several policies that prevented the formation of political cliques inside the militia, the independence enjoyed favoured its implication in the overthrow of the regime in 2792. It was during this era that the Bremen Defense Force adopted the motto Bremen above all.<ref name="pf16748" /><ref name="gg14149">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
Polaris development
Most recently, and under the umbrella of the StarCitizen:Militia Mobilization Initiative, StarCitizen:Robert Space Industries (RSI) started the development of a StarCitizen:corvette oriented to patrol and escort duties in the service of system militias. RSI partnered with the Bremen Defense Force to help design a practical ship that better fulfilled the milita's requirements. It was also the Bremen Defense Force the first to acquire and field the result of this collaboration: the StarCitizen:Polaris corvette.<ref name="pf16748" />
Template for the Civilian Defense Force
The Bremen Defense Force was used as template for the creation of the StarCitizen:Civilian Defense Force, as one of their co-founders, StarCitizen:Amanda Xian had been a member of the Bremen Defense Force and saw firsthand how a strong local militia could benefit a system’s security<ref name="jp0901">Template:Cite Jump Point</ref>
Jurisdiction
Bremen Defense Force enforces the laws in this jurisdiction, which applies within the StarCitizen:Bremen system's gravitational sphere of influence and includes its three planets StarCitizen:Bremen I, Bremen II (Rytif), StarCitizen:Bremen III and StarCitizen:Bremen IV, and associated celestial bodies.
Just like StarCitizen:UEE Military and Advocacy agents, local security personnel can require you to submit to identification scans to establish your identity, conduct searches of your person and vessel, and detain you with due cause. Always obey the directives of authorized security personnel.
