The Orion is a capital mining ship manufactured by StarCitizen:Roberts Space Industries (RSI). It is a mobile mining platform that has extensive storage for resources, drone docks, and an on-board refinery, which allows the ship to be operated alone for large-scale mining operations without the need of support vessels. Roberts Space Industries’ goal has always been to make the stars available to individual Citizens. Now, with the RSI Orion mining platform, RSI is letting individuals take over a process formerly controlled by mega-corporations. The Orion’s features include high-grade turret-mounted tractor beam arrays, plenty of mineral storage and a cabin designed by the team that brought you the Aurora and Constellation! The listed Cargo Capacity is only for the dedicated Cargo Room and does not account for the mined material capacity in the storage pods which will be detailed later.

Development

The Orion was revealed in its first concept sale on 2015-02-20,<ref name="presentation">Template:Cite RSI</ref> accompanying the design note of the mining game mechanics.<ref name="cl14522">Template:Cite RSI</ref> During its whitebox phase in 2017, It was scaled up by close to 100% in size from its original concept to make room for the interior.<ref name="shipshape">Ship Shape: RSI Orion on YouTube</ref>
