Viika is silent today and I don’t know if that’s a good sign. How do you relate to your sibling when they’re seeing a different “now” to you? Are they staring back at the door to our home as our parents wave them goodbye forever? Or are they enjoying tomorrow’s dinner today instead?

I wish they could tell me. Share how they feel. The scientist in me would give anything to know the mind of the timeswept. The sister in me would give anything to understand my sibling.

Dragonkin don’t normally do family. We’re all so focused on our own problems, our constant pain, that we sometimes lack the empathy to care for someone else. Romance died the day of the curse, I swear, and family became a necessary act of survival, rather than a nurturing thing.

Yet I choose to defy traditional values. Viika deserves better, after all. So if they do not know what day is today, I will keep them grounded. I will be the shield against the horrors of the present, so that they will see the tomorrow they’ve already lived.

And perhaps, if I’m lucky, they will find that special moment when their now and my now coincide together.
