Doric insists that you should be able to see your face in a mithril shield. That's the mark of quality: if you can check for rock cakes in your teeth before battle, then you've made a good one.

There's at least a little science behind that. The more tempered mithril is, the more it reflects. Doric isn't being a narcissist here: he knows what he is doing.
