Minecraft:Medusa

From SAS Gaming Wiki

Template:Infobox character Medusa is a mythological creature, known for her ability to turn any who stare at her to Minecraft:stone. She served as inspiration for a Minecraft:skin and Minecraft:slime retexture in Minecraft:Greek Mythology Mash-up, the latter of which was later adapted into a character in the second season of Minecraft:Minecraft Mini-Series.

Appearance

Within the Minecraft:Greek Mythology Mash-up, Medusa appears in two forms, a Minecraft:skin and a Minecraft:mob. The skin is presented as a pale humanoid with bluish white skin, red eyes, black eyelashes, and an angry expression. Her hair is made of several green snakes with red eyes and tongues, while her lower body consists of what appears to be a snake tail. Her wardrobe consists of a white blouse with a golden crest on her chest, golden armbands, and a gold belt.

Her second depiction is a retexture of a slime, representing only her head. The outer layer is a mess of vine-like snakes, with red eyes similar to the skin, but with richer bodies. The head of the slime is a shade similar to a regular slime, with a more scale-like texture.

In Minecraft:Minecraft Mini-Series, Medusa appears as a large, swamp-green Minecraft:slime with snake-like hair. Due to being based off a slime initially, Medusa in the series is presented as much larger than slimes, around twice the size of Minecraft:Quinn. Curiously, the show also makes the actual head subtly transparent, making it more closely resemble a slime.

Abilities

Medusa's most notable ability is to petrify anyone who stares into her eyes.<ref>Template:Citation</ref> According to Quinn in Mini-Series, however, she merely causes people to "get stuck in stone." In the context of the episode, this is represented by the characters by looking into her eyes stepping on a Minecraft:stone pressure plate, causing Minecraft:stone bricks to rise up around them.<ref>Template:YouTube link</ref> Medusa is also represented mimicking certain abilities of slimes, jumping from a great distance with no injury.

Biography

Medusa is the only mortal of three Template:Wikipedia sisters. She would be considered the most beautiful of the trinity, being mentioned the most of her sisters in ancient texts. Within Greek canon, she would meet her fate at the hands of Template:Wikipedia, who managed to decapitate her and used her head as a weapon for many years.<ref>Template:Citation</ref><ref>Template:Citation</ref>

Mini-Series

At some point, she would join under the allegiance of a man calling himself Zeus, who entrusted her with one of the Minecraft:enchanted eyes of ender.<ref>Template:YouTube link</ref> To do so, she kept the artifact buried within her personal cave on an island, keeping it secure for several years. During a crisis wherein Poseidon took over a reality television series, multiple figures would be teleported to the island and investigate the cave, looking for the first eye. Medusa would manage to defeat Minecraft:Zed and Minecraft:Durango with minimal effort, but ended up bested by Minecraft:CommuniKate. Using a vanity mirror she had on hand, she would activate one of her own traps, containing the threat for an uncertain amount of time.

Trivia

  • Due to the later confirmation that Minecraft:Zeus and Minecraft:Poseidon are not real deities, it is possible that Medusa is another creature or person fascinated with the legend. This would explain why Medusa cannot literally petrify anyone in that series, though it does raise the question of why staring at a mirror would frighten her.
  • Medusa's name is derived from an ancient Greek word, μέδω, meaning "she who rules/protects."<ref>Template:Citation</ref> On top of the historical and mythological significance, this works with Medusa being consistently portrayed as guarding treasure in Minecraft.
