Dune is a science fiction book written by Frank Herbert and published in 1965. It inscribes itself in the larger Dune cycle, and has spawned an entire Franchise, including various movies, tv series, comic books, music. References to it can be found across various media, including in Star Citizen.

The StarCitizen:Valakkar is a giant sandworm in Star Citizen that are inspired by the iconic Shai-Hulud. The Star Citizen Shai-Hulud are portrayed as having a mouth consisting of three triangular lobes, as in the classic 1984 David Lynch movie, which itself takes inspiration from the John Schoenherr illustrations for the serialization of Dune in Analog Magazine and for the book covers.<ref>Dune (1984), imdb</ref><ref>Dune: the Most Important Science Fiction Art Ever, omnireboot.com, August 16, 2013, archived</ref>
