The Ironclad and Ironclad Assault were unveiled by Drake Interplanetary during StarCitizen:Drake DefenseCon 2954, an event run by Drake as a tagalong to the StarCitizen:Invictus Launch Week. The obvious aim was to eclipse the official convention.<ref name="presentation" />

Trivia

The community has affectionately dubbed the Ironclad with playful nicknames like "Fatterpillar" and "Ironchad".
The Ironclad Assault was originally concepted with a cargo capacity of 1,152 SCU but after the developers removed some ladders this removed the need for walkways which allowed them to increase the cargo capacity to 1,440 SCU<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
