StarCitizen:JR Design & Fabrication

From SAS Gaming Wiki

JR Design & Fabrication is an officially licensed Star Citizen vendor which has a licensing agreement to produce props, [[StarCitizen::Category:Furniture|furniture]] and kit models from the Star Citizen universe.<ref name=":0">JRDF FAQ</ref>

JRDF and Cloud Imperium Games have worked together on many projects. Alongside detailed scaled vehicle models, they’re the team behind the huge Sabre Raven, Kraken, and full-sized Dragonfly models seen at past StarCitizen:CitizenCon events. They’ve also realized replica furniture and bespoke installations for Cloud Imperium Games offices and events going all the way back to GamesCom 2017.<ref name=":1">Template:Cite RSI</ref>

JRDF model kits come in four scales:

  • 1:40 for land vehicles
  • 1:100 for fighters and snub craft
  • 1:200 for medium-sized ships of all disciplines,
  • 1:500 for large, sub-capital and capital-sized ships<ref name=":1" />

The licence agreement granted from Cloud imperium Games is for scale kit models, not fully painted completed models. To have models built and painted in the UK would significantly increase costs.<ref name=":0" />

History

Big JR has been building things for events, TV, theater, trade stands, and while bored he built a spacesuit locker replica for Britizencon 2017 as a hobby, which CIG liked, and it ended up at Wilmslow. This led to CIG asking him to build things for Gamescon, Citizencon etc and contracted him.<ref>Frontier Feature - 13 - Big JR [Star Citizen interview], YouTube, 21 Feb 2018</ref> His first paid commission was building the furniture for the Star Citizen 2017 GamesCom stand.<ref>"First paid commission from @robertsspaceind.bsky.social, building the furniture for the Star Citizen 2017 GamesCom stand.", @jrdf.bsky.social‬, Bluesky, December 4, 2024</ref>

In 2023 JRDF built the StarCitizen:New Babbage inspired entrance to Cloud Imperium Games Manchester studio, based on the concept art from StarCitizen:Ian Leyland.<ref>Manchester Goods Yard Reception, John Raine, Youtube, 22 April 2025</ref><ref>Manchester Goods Yard Reception, jrdf.co.uk</ref>

In October 2025 JRDF US was acquired by Reid Denton, mentioning the marketplace at the time being in chaos with the impacts of Trump tariffs being felt by everyone and the team being reasonably concerned, prudent, and tracking the impacts of tariffs on the supply chain but having a good handle on it so far and developing mitigating strategies and back up plans to ensure smooth production runs and keeping access to markets open globally.<ref>JRDF US acquisition this week, jrdf.sc, 15 October 2025</ref>
