StarCitizen:Prosthetics
More actions
Cybernetic prosthetics are a planned feature of StarCitizen:Star Citizen, to replace destroyed body parts.
This includes bionics, such a robotic eyes, for which the backend has already been implemented.<ref name=":1">Star Citizen: June Subscriber's Town Hall feat. CIG wants an array of options, from beginners to more advanced options, different sources such as government issue or pirate outlander. <ref name=":0">Inside Star Citizen: Ship Trip | Summer 2021, Star Citizen, Youtube, September 2, 2021</ref>
CIG has also been exploring how they would work with clothes, either exposing the prosthetics in full or partially.<ref name=":0" />
It still isn't known if players will be able to create their character with an artificial limb or if they will have to ask a friend for their "help".<ref name=":2" />
They were initially seen as more cosmetic and not physically augment the players body.<ref name=":1" /> Since then, there have been mentions of some proesthetics being able to give advantages such as with aim, but with downsides as well including the possibility of getting disabled by EMP.Template:Fact
Weaknesses
The prosthetics will be able to take damage during a fight and to be repaired by being taken to a cybernetic repair facility, which could be on a planet or potentially in a large medbay on a capital ship.<ref>Star Citizen: Reverse the Verse LIVE - Bringing Characters to Life, Star Citizen, Youtube, March 30, 2018</ref><ref>10 For the Chairman Episode 24. They will likely be vulnerable to EMP and be taken out of action for a brief period, similar to the effects of a stun grenade.<ref>10 for the Chairman: Episode 46 (2014.11.24), Star Citizen, Youtube, Nov 25, 2014</ref>
Lore

Quotes
"One of my goals with Star Citizen is to make it feel very visceral and real. I want to feel the effects of physical damage on my character, loss of limb or other mishaps that can happen in the danger of space. If my character has been through several wars, I want to see the scars on him/her – perhaps a cybernetic arm because one was lost in firefight or the wrong side of a dogfight. I want to be able to walk up to another player in a bar and SEE that he or she is a grizzled veteran with the battle scars to prove it. This is the kind of detail, texture, and immersion that I want to achieve with Star Citizen." -StarCitizen:Chris Roberts.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
